Q: How do I customize my YouTube videos on my site?
A: To customize and select the videos that you want displayed on a site using YouTube is really simple to do. The two simplest ways to go about this are as follows:
Creating a custom player using an accounts 'featured videos' - will display all of the videos, in the order in which they are displayed in the 'My Videos' section of your account in YouTube.
Creating a custom player using a 'playlist' - will display any/all videos inside of the playlist that you have created, in the order in which you have them in the playlist (and yes, you can re-order them!!).
Using the 'Featured Videos' method:
- First, login to your YouTube account.
- Second, go to http://www.youtube.com/custom_player. On this page, you can select several different customization options for your player. After selecting your options, in the section named 'Content', make sure 'My Videos' is highlighted, and click the 'Select' button.
After you have customized your selections and content, click the 'Generate Code' button and the page will reload with code that you can copy/paste into an email and send to us to add onto your site.
Using the 'Playlist' method:
- First, login to your YouTube account.
- Second, go to any video on YouTube that you wish. Underneath the video there are 4 tabbed-buttons labeled 'Share', 'Favorite', 'Playlists', 'Flag'. Click on the 'Playlists' button it should change to reveal an 'Add to Your Playlist' section. Select the playlist you wish to add the video to from the dropdown menu (create a new one if needed) and click OK.
- Third, repeat the second step until you have added all of the videos that you want.
- Fourth, go to http://www.youtube.com/custom_player Once at this page, you can select several different customization options for your player. After selecting your options, in the section named 'Content', make sure that, under the title 'Playlists', the playlist of your choice is highlighted, and click the 'Select' button.
After you have customized your selections and content, click the 'Generate Code' button and the page will reload with code that you can copy/paste into an email and send to us to add onto your site.
Once these custom players are on your site, they will display exactly how you have set them up, and they will also display ONLY the videos that you have selected. Further customization, such as different skins or ‘looks’ will require programming and design.
If a custom player is already on a site using a playlist, or the full list of videos and either the playlist or the full list (respectively) are updated, the site will be updated as well so you won't have to worry about a thing besides adding the video!
